Casio TS-200 – Technical Data & Model Information

Casio TS-200 – technical data and different color versions of the vintage watch

Casio TS-200 is a digital wristwatch released in the early 1990s, known for its built-in thermometer and sunrise/sunset calculator. It used module 987 and combined standard Casio functions like timekeeping, alarm, and stopwatch with outdoor-oriented features such as temperature logging and daylight graphs. This made the TS-200 one of Casio’s most advanced adventure watches of its era.

What color versions of Casio TS-200 exist?

Casio TS-200 was released in five main color versions: two black-based and three white-based, with the white models being much rarer.

White & Grey Accent
The rarest TS-200 colorway. White resin case with a muted grey sensor and turquoise text. Clean pieces are extremely collectible, but most surviving watches suffer from heavy yellowing.

Full Black with Orange Details
This is the most common TS-200. It has an all-black resin case with orange lettering and an orange sensor. Collectors see it as the “standard” version, and it often shows up on auctions. Despite being the baseline model, the clean futuristic look still appeals today.

Black & Yellow Accent
Another widely available version. It uses a matte black case with a bright yellow sensor cover and matching side buttons. The design feels more sporty and outdoorsy compared to the all-black version.

White & Green Accent
A playful 90s look. The case is white resin with a neon green sensor cover and matching buttons. These are already hard to find today, and most surviving examples show yellowing or cracked resin.

White & Pink Accent
Much rarer than the black versions. It features a white case with a pink sensor cover and side buttons. The sensor plastic was originally pink, but over time it often turns orange, very similar to what happens on the case of the Casio SUF-100. Interestingly, the buttons usually stay pink as they were, which makes this version a bit quirky. Finding one with the original strap is very difficult, and complete examples are especially collectible.

What are the features and functions of Casio TS-200?

Casio TS-200 combines standard digital watch functions with a thermometer and sunrise/sunset calculator, two features that made this model stand out from other Casios of the early 1990s.

  • Timekeeping Mode
Displays hours, minutes, seconds, AM/PM, date, and weekday. Switchable between 12-hour and 24-hour formats. Accuracy is around ±15 seconds per month.
  • Sunrise/Sunset Mode
One of the most important features of the TS-200. It shows sunrise and sunset times for a chosen date and location, and includes a daylight graph that visualizes daylight hours. Accuracy is about ±5 minutes at lower latitudes and ±10 minutes above 50°.
  • Thermometer
The main function that makes the TS-200 special. The built-in sensor measures from -20°C to +60°C (-4°F to +140°F). Accuracy is ±2°C in the 10–40°C range and ±3°C at extremes. To get reliable readings, the watch needs to be off the wrist for about 20 minutes to stabilize.
  • Temperature Data Recall
Stores up to 30 logged readings with date and time. Readings can be taken in intervals of 10 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours, or 24 hours. A small graph shows six readings at a time, making it useful for tracking temperature changes during the day.
  • Stopwatch
1/100-second stopwatch, measuring up to 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59.99 seconds. Includes split times and two-finishes mode.
  • Alarm & Hourly Signal
One daily alarm (20-second tone) and an hourly chime. Indicators on the display show when functions are active.
  • Micro-light
A small illumination light allows the display to be read in the dark.

The thermometer and sunrise/sunset mode turned the TS-200 into more than just a digital watch. For many collectors, it feels like a pocket weather station on the wrist, with functions that were far ahead of their time.

Strap and Case Details – How easy is it to maintain Casio TS-200 today?

Casio TS-200 is not easy to maintain because the original resin straps and case parts are fragile and hard to replace.

The watch uses a 22 mm strap at the case connection, but original Casio straps are now very rare. Most examples on the market come with cracked, stiff, or yellowed resin. This problem is especially visible on the white versions, where the material often turns cream or even orange with age. The lugs are a weak point too, as they can snap under stress if worn daily.

Want to see how yellowed resin can be brought back to snow white? I’ve documented full step-by-step restorations where the case color was revived. Check out the process here:

Aftermarket 22 mm straps fit the watch, but they don’t follow the original curve of the case and usually change the look. Collectors prefer NOS Casio straps, though these are difficult to source. Acrylic crystals can be restored with Polywatch or sanding, while resin cases can sometimes be improved with whitening treatments, but results are never perfect.

In short, the black versions are easier to restore and wear today, while the white versions need much more careful handling. For collectors, keeping the original strap intact adds a lot of value.

FAQ – Casio TS-200

What battery does Casio TS-200 use?

Casio TS-200 uses a CR2016 lithium battery. It lasts about 5 years under normal use (light and alarm once per day). After replacement, an AC reset is required to restart the module.

Is Casio TS-200 water resistant?

Yes, the TS-200 was sold with water resistance, but after 30 years the gaskets are often dry or cracked. For collecting it’s fine, but for daily water use the seals should be replaced.

How rare is Casio TS-200 today?

Black versions are still relatively easy to find. White versions are much rarer, with the White & Grey Accent being the hardest to get in clean condition. Resin yellowing makes untouched examples very collectible.

Where can I find a strap replacement for Casio TS-200?

Original Casio straps are hard to source. Sometimes NOS straps appear on auction sites. In most cases collectors fit aftermarket lug: 17 mm / case: 22 mm straps.

Does Casio TS-200 still work with its thermometer and sunrise/sunset features?

Yes, if the sensor is intact. The thermometer works best when the watch is off the wrist for about 20 minutes to stabilize. The sunrise/sunset mode is accurate when location data is entered correctly.
